To Deep Creek

What a great campsite last night. It was calm and peaceful. No wind. And I woke up this morning to the sound of footsteps. Unzipped my tent and there were about 10 deer meandering by. Great way to start the day.
Much of the day was spent on the kind of trail that Appalachian Trail hikers dream of. Pine needle, sandy, WALKABLE path. Not always the case on the AT.
We hiked through a lot of areas that have been decimated by fire at some point.
But you can start to see some new growth. There is a big fire burning in Shenandoah Natl park and several miles of the AT are closed. Scary stuff. Hope everyone gets out safely.
It was so weird to see the contrast of the damaged forest with the snow capped mountains in the background.
Again today, the trail was nearly deserted. Crossed paths with JJ and Lydia again and a few day hikers. We had some great water today! Crossed Holcomb Creek several times and hiked along beside it.
We stopped and soaked our tired feet in this icy water and it felt great. We got in some good miles today and we are camping down by Deep creek.

It's going to be nice sleeping with the sound of the creek. Tons of bats here tonight!! Keeping the bug population down :).
43 miles to McDonald's if anyone cares. #mcflurryANDhotfudge
On this day in 1838, John Muir was born. He played a huge part in preserving parts of our wilderness ,so signing off tonight with a quote from him that resonates with me...
"In every walk with nature, one receives far more than they seek."
