Rangely to Perham Stream Road

On the trail by about 8. Murphy and I continued hiking north, but everyone else from the Farmhouse Hostel slack packed south today. We hiked up over Saddleback Mountain
and up over the Horn, where we crossed paths with the crew heading south so we all stopped for lunch on top.
This family of five has been section hiking the AT for the last four years and they are finishing their last section to Katahdin this year, with three of their kids and their dog. What an undertaking!! Hudson, Gabby(who turned 14 yesterday) Savannah, Mama Bear, Mosey, Jungle Jim, Murphy and 50/50. Sarah, the dog, got lunch too.
We sat and plotted out dinner tonight when we all shuttle back to the Farmhouse. Gabby mentioned spaghetti and we decided on a big hiker feast tonight!! Motivation for the rest of the climbs today!
Maine has a lot of pretty vast, remote terrain.
Did good miles today. I feel like we are making good progress again!!
There are spots where it looks like the forest is covered in green carpet...
Back at the Farmhouse
by around 6:30, and we fixed a big dinner
of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and cheesecake. Yum. Then we brought in the clean up crew to sweep the floor :)
Pearl, the pig. Not a crumb to be found after Pearl scoured the floor.
Pampering ourselves with a little more hostel time. It has helped with body aches and pains and a little bit of a spirit booster. It feels good to spend two clean nights in a row in the same location!!
Kansas stuff....
So, I mentioned a hiker named Stark a few weeks ago. He got his masters at KU. Hiked some with him the other day, and it turns out he ran CC/track at KU for a year with my good friends, Mark and Amy's son, Ben!! Small world!
Met another hostel owner in Rangely yesterday, and when I said I was from Kansas he was flabbergasted and said, "NO ONE is from Kansas! Seriously.. You are from Kansas?" Then, ran in to him later in the day, and he was still just as amazed that I was from Kansas and announced it to an entire crowd of people. Apparently, Kansans are quite the oddity out here!
It was a little overcast when I went to bed so did not get to see the super moon... but at about 1:30, woke up because it was so bright!! Awesome!
