We had to ford...
One stream
And the Piscataquis river
Twice
Got in to Monson at about 3:30 for resupply, rest and drying out before heading out tomorrow to the 100 mile wilderness. Basically, just more of the same, but with no towns in between. Food options are to either carry 6 days of food, or buy enough food for 6 days and pay for a food drop at the 50 mile mark for half of it. One last little bit of trail magic.. When we got to the Lakeshore house where we are staying tonight, some one had randomly paid for three food drops for thru hikers coming through, so they offered one to us! Murphy, 50 and I are sharing a bucket. We will buy what we need and they will get it to us out there.
As we were eating tonight, we ran in to the Geiger family. We had been hiking off and on with them since before Mahoosuc notch. (Refresher- they were hoping to finish their four year goal of hiking the entire AT this year with three of their kids and their dog) We had heard they had gotten off the trail a few days ago but didn't know how to contact them to check in. We knew they had a time crunch to finish before school and were going to have to do really big miles to make it, so they wisely decided to finish it up next year when they can enjoy this last section through Maine. So great to touch base.
Sleeping indoors tonight for the last time in 5 or 6 days. Keeping fingers crossed for a draught in Maine for the next few days. (And it's raining outside as I write this)
Probably be out of touch until Friday.... when we emerge from the woods :)
HYOH, good luck hope it dries up.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for drier weather and easier trails. Take care!
