100 Mile Wilderness

Day 1. Monson to Wilson Valley Lean to
Well, the whole drought thing did not work out too well. Rained pretty much all night and most of today. Most everyone decided to hike out despite the rain because we are just too close to the end to wait it out. Came to this sign at the beginning of the hike today...
I think we are prepped and ready! Although it was drizzly today, it had a different feel to it because we know we are on the homestretch. I thought back to rain in the Smokies all those months ago. I remember hiking over a bald in the cold, driving rain and not minding a bit. Made today's warm rain seem mild.
We'd planned on doing a short day since we got a late start after resuppling but once we got moving, we did a few more miles then planned. Had to few ford a few more streams.
Shortcut hiked with us part of the day.
Cleared up tonight and it looks like some dry weather days this week. Fingers crossed. Two more climbing days ahead and then we have some smooth trail leading to Katahdin.
Sleeping in the shelter tonight because the ground is saturated after days of rain.

Day 2. Wilson Valley Lean-to to chair back gap
Soooo, pretty much rained all night long. Great to be in the shelter, but we knew what it meant for the trail today...
I like to think of myself as a pretty positive person... but today was a beat down!! I would say maybe 5% of the trail today was walkable. It was kind of brutal :). More stream fords. One to start the day and one to end it, so there is no possibility of shoes, socks or feet drying out.
The trail here is not any worse than we've been dealing with, it's just that after four days of rain, in already boggy Maine, it's a mess.
Our last two climbing days, today and tomorrow and then it's pretty much flat all the way to the base of Katahdin. I'm ready for flat!
The sun finally popped out for a little bit  this afternoon which was a huge spirit booster. We had hoped to do a few more miles today, but stopped at 15 miles at 6:00. Tired bodies!!
If the forecast is right, it looks like we have several sunny days ahead!! Hoping it warms things up and dries out the trail. I am sleeping in my woolies again tonight.
Come on sunshine!!!
