We had some beautiful scenes, but the wind was very distracting.
After the last big climb we came to a well stocked water cache that also had CHAIRS! We guzzled a little water and settled in to the chairs for lunch. A temporary reprieve from the wind.
Hiked on down and came to...
Another HUGE wind farm. Which, coincidentally meant more wind. And wow! I don't know how big the gusts were, but it was blowing us off the trail. Had to use our poles to keep upright. Exhausting! Tucked down on one side of the ridge for an afternoon snack.
After several more miles on the ridge in the wind, we wound our way down to the road after feeling like we'd been pounded all day long! Hitched a quick ride in to Tehachapi with a nice guy who assured us it wasn't always that windy in the antelope valley. Marsha was amazing! We averaged 20 miles a day while she's been here and they were hard fought miles. Tonight, we are tucked in at the Holiday Inn Express which feels pretty much like the Ritz Carlton to me right now. Clean sheets and pillows. Ah!!! Heading back to Kansas for a week for Kelly's graduation so I will be taking a hiatus from the blog for a bit. It's a good time for a break. We still have about 130 miles of desert left, and then we hit Kennedy Meadows...the start of the Sierras. And we don't want to get there too soon. At this point, they just got a few more feet of snow and most are not going in yet. A little more time to warm up and melt is necessary. I will be bringing my microspikes and ice axe back with me . A new chapter in this hike!
But for tonight...I have a bed and TWO pillows. Fancy shmancy.
Have a good week everyone!
