We decided to do a big mileage day today but still squeezed in some fun stuff. Hit trail magic in the form of a cooler full of COLD sodas at a road crossing We passed a lady hiking the other way who said to definitely take the side trail and go visit Dismal Falls. I mean, come on! Who wouldn't want to go to a place called Dismal Falls!? I decided she was not actually a person but a little angel sent there to make sure we didn't miss this great spot. Pretty sure I would have passed it if not for her. We got there and the falls were beautiful with lots of flat rocks surrounding it. We met a former thru hiker named Longhorn, who was actually the trail angel with the aforementioned cold sodas.
He was picnicking at the falls with a hiker friend who also happened to have been on the show 'Survivor-Cook island' ?
They had taken this fabulous lunch up there and were done eating and shared some great goodies with us. The water was SUPER cold but since the motto is , 'if there are roses we will smell them' we jumped in the pool below the fall and swam. (It had been 'several' days since showering, so it could also qualify as a bath)
Dried off in the sun on the rocks and hiked on. Still managed to do good miles and ended up on top of a mountain and slept great. Must have been the swimming :)
